Exercising your muscles is tiring!
During strenuous exercise there is not enough oxygen being taken in (even if you breathe fast and deeply) to make enough of the energy molecule ATP which helps the muscles contract... so some ATP is made 'anaerobically' without oxygen - the problem with this is that lactic acid is made, which causes the muscles to ache
Once the exercising has stopped, the lactic acid needs to be broken down... and this seems to be speeded up by a light meal of cereals and milk.
The protein in the milk also helps the muscles to build their own proteins and get stronger.
So, rather than expensive sugar-based power drinks, which provide mostly glucose for making ATP, the best food for a quick and effective recovery seems to be a bowl of fresh cereals with skimmed milk!
Action:
Well, this calls for some experiments - why don't you try out the various drinks available and compare how refreshed you feel and how quickly compared to a bowl of cereals with skimmed milk
Why skimmed milk, do you think?
And presumably the type of cereals could make a difference too... why?
